Networks & access
Give someone viewing access without sharing your login
Invite the person’s own account. That gives you a specific membership to review later and keeps your sign-in credentials out of the handover.
Confirm the property and recipient
Sign into your Sunstead account with the account holding the saved connection. Open the member or invitation controls for the intended property. If you manage several properties, verify the name before creating access.
Ask the recipient which Google email they will use. The invitation is tied to that address; a different signed-in account cannot simply accept it because the browser has the link. Keep the purpose and intended duration of access clear.
Create and share the invitation link
Enter the recipient’s email and create the invitation. Sunstead displays a link to copy and share. The current workflow does not send an invitation email automatically, so a successfully created invitation is not evidence that the recipient has received anything.
Send the link through your usual private communication channel. Do not paste it into a public support discussion. Pending invitations can be cancelled, and unaccepted invitations currently expire after seven days.
Test the recipient’s experience
An acceptance check
The recipient opens the link, signs in with the invited Google email and accepts. They then open the property from their saved systems and confirm fresh readings. The inviter checks that membership now appears as expected.
Use the recipient’s separate browser session for the test. Testing while still signed in as the inviter proves the wrong account has access. If the page asks for another account, compare the displayed email with the invitation before retrying.
Understand the permission boundary
Current remote access provides viewing. Equipment changes require an authorized local connection. A viewing invitation is different from the one-use local administrator pairing code shown in Remote & displays.
Sharing a saved connection also creates membership records. The privacy page describes the account and invitation information retained. Review that information when deciding who should receive access to a shared property.
Remove access with the right control
Cancel a pending invitation if it should no longer be accepted. For an accepted member you invited, use Remove access. This stops further reads through that member’s account-opened dashboards; already downloaded information cannot be recalled.
Independent QR-paired connections remain separate. Removing an invited membership does not revoke every other connection that person may have established. Manage independent remote connections on the Sunstead host in Remote & displays.
- Check pending invitations after a caretaker changes.
- Review accepted members at a property handover.
- Distinguish invited access from independent paired access.
- Verify the intended account no longer opens the removed membership.
- Keep the owner’s credentials private throughout.
If a link is expired, cancelled or already accepted, check saved systems before issuing another one. A new invitation should solve a specific access need, not accumulate as an unexplained workaround.
